German World Sales company Global Screen has announced a number of sales on its acclaimed Scandinavian drama series FANGAR (PRISONERS): AMC Network Entertainment LLC. has picked up SVoD rights for North America, UK, Australia and NZ and will release the highly atmospheric 6x50min production on Shudder and Sundance Now.
Global Screen has also sold Pay TV and Catch Up rights to Spanish streaming service Sundance TV, who aired the series with great success in late 2017 and to Polish specialized cinema TV channel Ale Kino+, where it received superior ratings.
Alexandra Heidrich, Head of TV Sales and Acquisitions at Global Screen states, “We are very happy to see FANGAR coming to all major English-language territories, to Spain and Poland. The series is targeting an educated, urban audience. We are convinced it will be a great success for our clients. As directing, acting and production design are outstanding, it is rightly nominated for 14 national film awards in Iceland.”
Producer Davíð Óskar Ólafsson states, „We are thrilled about how well the show is being received internationally! This most recent sale to AMC really underlines our believe that we have made something special and that our series has an international appeal".
FANGAR tells the story of Linda, who is sent to serve time in Iceland's only women's prison for a vicious assault that leaves her father in a coma. But no-one knows that she harbours a dark secret that could tear her family apart, a secret that could set her free.
FANGAR is a milestone in Icelandic TV making: it won 10 Icelandic Film Awards including Best Film, Best Screenplay and Best Production, prestigious awards that no TV series had taken before. It isproduced by Mystery Productions and directed by Ragnar Bragason, one of Iceland's most popular and critically acclaimed filmmakers of the younger generation, known for the Icelandic TV series trilogy Næturvaktin ("The Night Shift"), Dagvaktin ("The Day Shift"), and Fangavaktin ("The Prison Shift").
