For more than 12,000 years now, dogs have been man's faithful friend - obedient, playful and devoted. And yet - do dogs not still bear some characteristics of a wild animal which often is named to be a beast? After all, the legendary and dreaded wolf is the prime father of all dogs. But how can we envision the development from a wild animal to man's best friend? Andrea Ruethlein, the film's author, reports about where the roots of the long lasting friendship between man and dog are. She travels to the German federal state of Saarland, where she meets a scientist who raises wolves and lives among them as their pack leader. He howls with the other wolves which strengthens the togetherness. The program shows that amazingly, the social structures among wolves are similar to those of us human beings.
