Gabriele Wegner is taking loving care of Theresa, the daughter of her girlfriend who died in an accident. At the same time she is struggling to keep up the hotel "Seeschlösschen" on the island of Usedom, which they managed together. Very soon, however, disaster looms: Amelie and Siegfried Dossenbach, distant relatives of the deceased girlfriend, suddenly turn up on the scene. They want to take over custody of Theresa, and they are also interested - somewhat less officially - in the hotel. Alarmed by this, Gabriele and Edda Krüger, the mainstay of the dilapidated hotel, decide that attack is the best form of defence and try to find Theresa's unknown father. Under the motto "The more unusual the ad, the greater the attention" they advertise in a Berlin daily newspaper. "Two million searching for a father". Candidates of all kinds promptly line up - among them the good-looking Thommy Behrens. The charming young cook claims to have met Theresa's mother during a cookery course, and he is even prepared to undergo a paternity test. But is he really the right one? Even though Theresa takes a spontaneous liking to him - Gabriele is still suspicious. She tries hard to keep a clear head, but Thommy's charm begins to take effect. Yet there is a lot of money at stake in this double game?
