Farmhall, England, 6th of August 1945: That night ten German scientists hear the news of the first release of a nuclear bomb on Hiroshima on BBC. Each of them in his manner had worked on a nuclear reactor himself since 1939. By the end of the war they are all sent into an internment camp. How could the Americans succeed in what they were not able to achieve? This is the main question that also Julian Green is interested in. He is going to interrogate and secretly monitor the Germans. From the conversation of Germany's most famous scientists Otto Hahn, Werner Heisenberg, Carl Friedrich von Weizsäcker, Erich Bragge and Max von Laue he tries to find out how they judge the state of development of the German research on the A-bomb.
