For 800 years Caliphs and Sultans ruled over the Iberian peninsula. They revelled in the beauties of this world - passionately and with all their senses. This film revisits the sources of these earthly pleasures. Quite in the spirit of the Moorish al-Andalus, not one of the human senses is to be neglected: the fragrance of blossoms wafts through the lush greenery on the patios. Delicious tapas are spiced with Moorish anecdotes. The pulse of the Orient beats in the Flamenco, and in the Spanish military stud the velvety coat of the magnificent Arab horses seems within easy reach of an outstretched hand.
On the trail of the Caliphs, the viewer wanders through the forest of pillars in the Mezquita de Córdoba where, 1300 years ago, Christians and Muslims prayed together and strolls through the "Salon Rico" of the palatine city of Madinat al-Zahra. The enchantment of "A Thousand and One Nights" pervades the Alcázares Palaces of Seville, where Muslim and Christian artists worked side by side. From the Oriental hustle and bustle in the narrow alleyways we plunge into the peace and calm of a hammam, modern public baths in the Moorish style.

Entertaining anecdotes and exciting stories finally culminate in breathtaking shots of the Alhambra, "the ruby set in a crowning hill overlooking Granada", the last bulwark of Islam on European soil.

Der Lebenspuls des Orients schlägt im Flamenco; und im spanischen Militärgestüt glaubt man die Hand nach dem samtenen Fell edler Araberpferde ausstrecken zu können.
Auf den Spuren der Kalifen wandelt der Betrachter im Säulenwald der Mezquita von Córdoba, in der vor 1300 Jahren Christen und Muslime gemeinsam beteten, und schlendert durch den "Reichen Saal" der Residenzstadt Medinet-az Zahra. Der märchenhafte Zauber Tausendundeiner Nacht belebt die Alcázares-Paläste von Sevilla, in denen muslimische und christliche Künstler Seite an Seite arbeiteten. Aus dem orientalischen Gewirr enger Gassen taucht man ein in die genüssliche Ruhe eines Hammam, eines modernen Bades im maurischen Stil.
Kurzweilige Anekdoten und spannende Geschichte gipfeln schließlich in prachtvollen Aufnahmen der Alhambra, des "Rubins über der Stirn von Granada", des letzten Bollwerks des Islam auf europäischem Boden.
