Geese have an image problem. Women we want to put down are referred to as "silly geese", talkative people are called "chattering geese". But after the dog, geese are the oldest domesticated animal. Man's other best friend. The research outpost in Grünau named after famed behavioralist Konrad Lorenz has a group of 140 grey geese they are studying. Their years of research have revealed a striking, primate-like complexity of social interaction. The Geese of Grünau are a model for courtship and cohabitation systems, for social conflicts between old and young that apply equally to human society. Current studies focus on the intellectual levels of grey geese, which have to be considerable to achieve such social complexity. The doc accompanies a single grey goose from hatchling to maturity.
