Ariel Sharon was one of the only leaders to have had such a significant and far reaching impact on the history of the state of Israel and the Middle East.
In 2003, Ariel Sharon announced and implemented the "Disengagement Plan", despite bitter opposition from within his own ranks. At the age of 78, the father of the settlement movement presided over the most significant move in the history of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict: the abandonment of the settlements in Palestine.
Director Dror Moreh had been following the statesman with his camera for many years, right up until the day when Sharon suffered a severe brain haemorrhage and fell into a coma. Who was Ariel Sharon? What brought him to the historic decision to tear down the settlements in the Gaza Strip and Samaria and thus clear the way for a possible peace? The film does not provide all the answers that the world still wants from Sharon, but strikingly and uniquely, it does reveal the man behind the statesman. Viewers can begin to fathom how torn he must have been, and the extent to which he had to put his own feelings aside in order to adopt this new position.
