Qufu and the Spirit of Confucious Pt. 2 (27/39)

In his teachings, Confucious set the highest value on the position of the family, which he viewed as the fundamental social bond, more important than all others.  Correspondingly, he positioned family loyality as more important than any other bond, even those to the Emperor and to Heaven. Through this, strong family traditions came into being that have notable influences on the way that the chinese live together to this day. This is plain to see in the Kong family, direct descendants of the great teacher in the 77th generation. The many rituals and ceremonies that influence daily life, more than anywhere else in China, are derived from the teachings of the great Master.

This series portrays landscapes, metropoles, sacred sites and monuments, all of which have made a unique contribution to the cultural heritage of mankind. Each episode breathes life into civilizations which thrived in the past ten thousand years, some of them then vanishing without a trace into the shadows of history. The films describe epochs whose legacy lingers in the perceptions and ideas of our own age, and cult sites which have managed to preserve their religious and cultural power up to the present day.
