Over 100 years ago Dr. Michael Bayerl, a doctor from Passau, bought an old fish farm originally created by Benedictine monks in the 11th century. Bayerl was a hobby fisherman and managed the farm in his spare time. His son Otto, however, decided to become a pisciculturist (fish farmer). He turned the monks' fish farm into a flourishing business, which was then taken over by his son Sigmund. In 1915, still in the era of Otto Bayerl, the scale carp Gustav was born. Gustav survived in a place which is extremely dangerous for a fish. He grew and thrived, becoming an ancient giant who is now allowed to spend his well-deserved last years in waters which have been placed under nature conservation. We accompany Gustav through the decades and get to know many of his companions in and around the fish farm.
