The slender loris is only active at night. The slow-motion movements of this prosimian make it difficult for its enemies to discover it among the dark branches. The huge ears of the fennec fox seem to indicate that there is more to be heard than to be seen at night. And anyone seeing an aardvark for the first time might think he has stumbled across a mythical creature. Nocturnal animals often look rather comical: their sense organs are enlarged, their movements slowed down. The zoo in Singapore now offers an attraction unique throughout the world: the Night Safari Park. This 40-hectare section of the park is not opened until darkness has fallen and allows the visitor to roam through diverse habitats and watch the nocturnal activities of the animals. The path takes the visitor through landscapes such as the Himalayan Mountains, a Nepalese river valley, tropical forests, African bush and rainforest. Zoologists, botanists, landscape architects, lighting technicians and engineers co-operate to make the animals' nightlife visible.
