Three times a year, excess elephants are captured with rangers, veterinarians and volunteers in trucks and helicopters in South Africa's Kruger National Park, and taken to other parks with lower populations. The National Park's head veterinarian Dr. Markus Hofmeyr is in charge of the sweep, in which 20 giraffes, 100 wildebeest, 200 water buffalo and 100 antilopes are captured in Kruger National Park and then transported to Limpopo National Park in the east. Especially the giraffes are difficult to transport. These giants are either herded into a fenced area and carefully loaded onto waiting trucks. The other method is to sedate them one by one with a dart gun, put a leash on them and lead them into boxes half-tranquilized. The mission is as spectacular as it is dangerous, as the team has to work together perfectly to get the beasts to their new habitat safely.
