Lions and humans have always had a fraught history in Africa, but now as their numbers dwindle, the lions are in need of human assistance if they are to survive into the next century.

There is an old Bushman legend that people and lions were once friends. Until an argument broke out... To this very day the conflict between lions and people in Africa continues to smolder on. A hundred years ago, it was said that there were almost half a million lions living there. Today they number fewer than 35,000. Scientists fear that these mighty predators could be extinct in Africa by the year 2050. For Leigh Anne Webb, this was reason enough to dedicate her life to protecting lions. She works in Zimbabwe's Antelope Park. There the lion protection organization, Lion Encounter runs a project that is aiming to re-stabilize the number of lions in the wild. To this end, lions are being bred in captivity. The aim is to then reintroduce their offspring into the wild. It is a controversial project and one that is not without its dangers. Leigh Anne herself has already been attacked by a lion. The film follows this committed woman and tells the story of lion cubs Segume and Kariba as they embark on their long road to establishing themselves as wild lions and once more finding a place in the hearts of people...
