In the villages at the foot of the steep mountains of Cuc Phuong, on the edges of Vietnam's foremost National Park, when the farmers unharness their water buffalo after a long day's work, the idyllic scene easily makes you forget the terrible strife that plagued this region for many years - and still does to this day. Up until 1975, it was the U.S. Air Force bombers. that regularly targeted the capital of Hanoi as well. After that, it was the war on nature that Vietnam has been waging ever since. On his patrols and assignments that lead him to all parts of the country, conservationist Tilo Nadler can confirm his conviction that destroying the natural environment ultimately robs human beings of their existence as well. This conclusion at least partly explains his strict measures against poachers and lumber thieves. In the coming days, Tilo Nadler will take the next important step towards resettling the Hatinh Langur in its original habitat, the rain forests and cliffs of central Vietnam.
