Jerusalem is a holy city, not only for Jews but also for Christians and Muslims. Since time immemorial, each of the three great monotheistic religions has claimed the city as its own. Long-lasting, bloodthirsty conflicts were the result. Jerusalem, a bone of contention for over 2000 years. Now more than ever. Without its pre-eminent significance for these religions, Jerusalem would be merely one among a hundred other desert cities - interchangeable, unimportant.

This film by Georg Graffe draws a portrait of a city for which Judaism, Christianity and Islam have been both a blessing and a curse.

Jerusalem ist eine heilige Stadt, nicht nur für Juden, sondern auch für Christen und Moslems. Jede der drei großen monotheistischen Religionen erhob seit jeher Anspruch auf die Stadt. Die Folge waren zahlreiche lange und blutrünstige Auseinandersetzungen. Jerusalem, ein Zankapfel seit mehr als 2000 Jahren. Heute mehr denn je. Ohne seine herausragende Bedeutung für diese Religionen wäre Jerusalem lediglich eine unter hunderten von Wüstenstädten - austauschbar, bedeutungslos.
