In its first case the MEK8 team tackles a hostage taker in a school. The criminal appears determined to go all the way. Frank Gärtner has not got over his divorce and above all the separation from his daughter Clara. Alcohol and psychological problems have caused the now delusional ex-head of a bomb disposal squad to believe Clara is ready to start a new life with him. Gärtner's attempt to kidnap his own daughter quickly turns into him running amok, at the end of which he is holed up in the school with three young hostages. Among them is Tim, the son of MEK8 colleague Eva Bäumler. While Eva fears for her son's life the team has just a few hours. Gärtner insists on an aircraft that will take him and his daughter to Gran Canaria and a supposedly better life. The desperate mother undertakes a desperate step to save her son's life but so doing sets her MEK8 colleagues a new challenge. She becomes a willing hostage of the unpredictable bomber. The heads of the MEK8, Axel Grosser and Stefan Heller, have no other choice than to fulfill Gärtner's demand and grant him and the hostages safe passage to the airport. But the journey ends in a dramatic incident on the autobahn.
