Only a handful of the small spirit bears remain in Canada. "Animal World" was fortunate to visit a care and re-release station: the unique and touching images of this rare species of bear make this film something quite special. There are only 300 to 1,000 spirit bears left in existence. They are as rare as the Giant Panda and only live in North Western Canada, in a world of islands and fjords. Recently there have been more and more sightings of this rare breed on the mainland too. Now for the first time, a spirit or Kermode bear, only a few months old, has been found orphaned and almost dead near the town of Smithers. Angelika Langen, a German woman, authorised in Canada to care for rare animals and prepare them for re-release, has taken the little bear into her care. "Animal World" was there when he was delivered and will be there when he is released back into the wild. Unique, touching images of this rare species and the little orphan bear make this film something quite special.
