Algae are among the oldest life forms on our planet - nevertheless science is still only in the early stages of researching these plants. 40,000 of an estimated 400,000 algae species have been discovered up to now. The surprising abilities and characteristics of algae are the subject of research in France, Japan and also in Germany. Whether on an algae farm on the North Sea island of Sylt, at the University of Bochum in the Ruhr district or at the location of the worldwide largest bio-photo reactor for the breeding of the green micro-alga chorella in the Altmark, the research and the results of scientific investigations reveal amazing discoveries and really give credence to the claim that algae are allrounders.

Algen gehören zu den ältesten Lebensformen unseres Planeten - dennoch steht die Wissenschaft erst am Anfang der Erforschung dieser Pflanzen.  40.000 von geschätzten 400.000 Algenarten hat man bislang entdeckt. In Frankreich, Japan, aber auch in Deutschland beschäftigt man sich mit den überraschenden Fähigkeiten und Eigenschaften der Algen. Ob auf einer Algenfarm auf der Nordseeinsel Sylt, an der Ruhruniversität Bochum oder am Standort des weltweit größten Biophotoreaktors zur Züchtung der grünen Mikroalge Chlorella in der Altmark, die Forschungen und Ergebnisse wissenschaftlicher Untersuchungen sind verblüffende Entdeckungen und lassen die Algen tatsächlich als Alleskönner aussehen.
