Polish geologist Magdalena Nowak is found dead in a wooded area near the village of Fehlow on 
the edge of a former lignite mining region – she was suffocated with a plastic bag. Detective Chief 
Superintendent Adam Raczek (Lucas Gregorowicz) and candidate Detective Superintendent Vincent 
Ross (André Kaczmarczyk) are quickly able to rule out sexual assault. But what was the young woman 
doing in the woods in the middle of the night?

According to her boyfriend Tom Grabowski (Patrick Kalupa), Magdalena was heading to her camper. 
She had not been living there long and was working on a geological survey as part of the 
renaturation of the former mining area, which is to become a tourist attraction. The detectives learn 
from the head of the project, Kristin Bredow (Annika Kuhl), that one of the largest artificial lakes in 
the country is to be created here. So, as far as the local residents are concerned, there is a lot riding 
on the survey. Did someone want to influence the results? Elderly pastor, Simon Bredow (Steven 
Scharf) has been looking after the shrinking community of Fehlow for decades and knows everyone 
personally; he is struggling to imagine that one of them could be behind Magdalena's death.

When a landslide reveals a second body not far from the first location, Raczek and Ross must 
establish if there is a connection between the two deaths, even though they occurred many years 
apart. Is the killer still active? Both detectives know that they need fast results to solve the case and 
decide to focus on the residents of the village. To use their presence to put the killer under pressure, 
they set up an incident room in Fehlow. The investigation proves a huge challenge for Raczek and 
Ross, ultimately forcing Raczek to make a decision with far-reaching consequences
