A second policeman is murdered. He, too, had to pay for an unrepented crime. The serial killer is interrupted by two unsuspecting village policemen preparing for the third murder. In doing so, the policemen put themselves in mortal danger. But the two are troubled by their own secrets...
On a dark winter day, police officer Gerry Engler, an IT specialist, is found dead with a gaping head wound. Wilder and Kägi suspect that the same perpetrator as in the case of Ronnie Volkert is behind it - apparently the police killer imitates the unpunished acts of his victims. This suspicion is confirmed when another video file emerges. In it, the bound and abused Engler confesses that he has beaten someone to death. The question is, who? Wilder and Kägi question the daughter and the mother of the murdered man and learn something sad: Gerry Engler wanted to protect his daughter and took extreme measures to do so.
The dead policeman worked closely with a Jakob Siegenthaler. The computer crack becomes very valuable for Rosa and Kägi - Jakob cracks almost every computer. But Jakob is also in the dark in the search for the murderer, he can only work with one clue: A van with a broken rear light was seen near the crime scene.
Because of this broken rear light, Jesch is stopped by village policeman Lukas Zimmermann who has no idea what a dangerous situation he is getting himself into. Jesch lets nothing and nobody stop him in his plans.
Kägi and Wilder fear that the serial killer will strike again. Unfortunately, they are right.
