The plot thickens once the weapons consignment to Croatia hits the news. Berko arrives home to his apartment to find Colonel Mendel waiting for him; Mendel is an army officer who has been at the forefront of the arms transport scandal. His retirement is imminent, and he is resigned to his fate, but he warns Berko that he is playing with fire: other people, much more powerful than he is, will now have a score to settle. On TV, the news speaks of an institutional crisis involving Pinochet, the Iraq-Iran conflict and the war in the Balkans. The sudden arrival of Almarza, a lawyer from the Spanish Prosecutor's Office who has come to Santiago to meet with Divina Day, moves Berko to protect her without considering the consequences. His relationship with Daniela now far exceeds that of journalist and source, and the passion between them leads to the discovery of new truths that Berko must pursue. He visits Lara in search of answers to the many enigmas that surround her work as a lawyer for the company that organized FIDAE. Berko asks his ex-wife Julianne for help deciphering the connections between the arms dealers, the Chilean army, and the businessmen involved in the deal. Warned of what the journalist is doing, Rulfo meets with Berko and tries to forge an alliance of convenience for both of them, but an incident involving Simon, Berko's son, spoils any compromise.
