Good people can die too. Popular social entrepreneur Hans-Martin Taubert falls from a bridge and survives but is severely injured. Dresden detectives Henni Sieland and Karin Gorniak meet three homeless witnesses who claim that Taubert was actually thrown from the bridge. Taubert had founded "Berberhilfe", a company that provides accommodation to homeless people and others needing help. He had become wealthy from the poor and clearly made no secret of it. The three homeless men claim to be Taubert's "security" – he had been threatened frequently in recent times. Taubert's brother Hajo is a suspect: boasting significantly less business acumen than Taubert, Hajo had borrowed money from his brother for a shady venture. Taubert was insisting, brotherly love notwithstanding, on being paid back. Soon after, another attempt is made on Taubert's life in the hospital – this time the killer succeeds. The detectives set their sights on Taubert's competitors – working with people on the margins of society is so lucrative it seems that people will stop at nothing for a piece of the pie. In the process, they receive unwanted support from Wiebke Lohkamp, a colleague from the fraud squad, with whose help the detectives uncover an entirely new side to their boss.
