In summer 2016, one night became a dramatic turning point for the people of Turkey. On July 15, a small group of Turkish military personnel attempted to overthrow the government. The coup d'état failed miserably just a few hours later, but its consequences have been very grave: to date, at least 50,000 people have been imprisoned. Among them a few thousand soldiers, whose participation in the revolt the courts are now investigating. But very many more academics, journalists and opposition politicians are still being arrested. This documentary reports on the failed coup in minute detail, speaking with contemporary witnesses, activists and victims and researching on the ground. The documentary makers also have a list of high-ranking Turkish government officials who have already received asylum in Germany and are politically active here. The former Turkish prime minister Mesut Yilmaz gives his first interview on the attempted coup in Turkey and members of a parliamentary investigative committee answer probing questions: what is Fethullah Gülen's connection with the failed coup? Who from the AKP government knew what and when? And how has the coup changed life in Turkey?
