The film follows the changing of the seasons along the German section of the Danube - from the springs in the wildly romantic Black Forest down to the Austrian border at Passau - a good 600 kilometers away. Exciting questions are answered using astonishing imagery: questions about the Danube's source, the sections where the river runs underground, the extraordinary water meadow landscapes with their rare animal and plant life and the creation of the spectacular Danube breakthrough near Kehlheim. Peregrine falcons, European terrapins and beavers are taking back this habitat, thanks to comprehensive protection measures.
