The Singing, Ringing Tree (by Brothers Grimm)

Based on the fairy tale by the Brothers Grimm: A young Prince tries to win the love of a beautiful but cold-hearted Princess.

The beautiful, cold-hearted and arrogant Princess is supposed to marry. But she rejects all her suitors with their generous presents, for she only wants one thing: The Singing, Ringing Tree, which only sings for true love. A young Prince falls in love with the beautiful Princess and sets out in search of the magical tree. But the tree is guarded by an evil forest spirit, who offers him a deal. The young Prince agrees, blinded by love. He brings the tree to the royal throne room, but when the tree neither sings nor rings, the Princess chases him off. Realizing the Princess thinks only of herself, and is incapable of love, the Prince fulfills his part of the deal and enters into the forest spirit's service. The Princess is unhappy and insists on owning that tree, so she sends her father, the King, to get it. The King strikes a deal with the forest spirit, too. He will trade the Tree for the first creature the King meets on his return home. Since the King is always greeted by his faithful dog, he's not too worried. But this time, it's his daughter comes running down the castle steps first. Before the King can react, the forest spirit grabs the Princess. Now both Prince and Princess are trapped in the spirit realm. They can't stand each other and make life hard for each other. Gradually they realize they will have to work together to fight the forest spirit and escape the magic realm. Will the Tree sing for them one day, after all?
