Berlin chief inspectors Nina Rubin and Robert Karow face their first case together.
13-year old Jo is desperate and alone, on the run in the city. Her older brother Ronny lives in a closed institution for young offenders, but a panicked call from his sister leaves him with little choice. Despite not having long to go on his sentence, he breaks out to help her.
Robert Karow begins his first working day in the homicide unit at a bloody scene of crime. Despite there being no trace of a body, the scene in the empty holiday home is gruesome and it is here that Karow first meets his new colleague Nina Rubin. With their assistant Mark and the young trainee Anna, Rubin and Karow start to investigate. Karow soon suspects that the case is drugs-related. Nina is skeptical; not least because Karow’s somewhat dubious reputation precedes him.
But then developments start to come thick and fast: Ronny and Jo flee from their brutal pursuers and a body is found on a rubbish tip. When the investigators discover that the brother and sister are in an empty hotel on land near the Berlin Brandenburg (BER) airport, they must race against time to save the girl.
